"I recently had a bilateral mastectomy. Prior to my mastectomies, I had not decided on whether I would have reconstruction. However, I had the opportunity to have impressions of my nipples made prior to surgery, so I did. After my surgery, I decided that I would have reconstruction, but thought I wouldn’t really need nipples, since all my life I had tried to hide them anyway. I was very surprised with how it made me feel when I first applied them. I looked in the mirror and felt great about my appearance and how natural they looked! I simply love that I can now have the choice of going with or without nipples!
An added bonus is that the prosthesis brought physical attention from my husband that I thought may have been lost forever. Prior to this, he had not shown much interest physically (he later confessed that he was afraid that he would "harm the reconstructed breast").
